We passed cover inspections! It took long hours and several last-minute, late night fixes but we passed with minimal remarks! That meant Mike could get his framing inspection done which we passed as well and now we are eagerly looking forward to insulation and sheetrock next week. Continue reading

Lots of progress this week! I was getting worried about holding up Mike’s progress and wanted to make sure we can start insulation and sheetrock next week so I got some help from a plumber and electrician to get everything roughed in and up to code.
Whew, time flies when you’re keeping busy! A lot has happened since our last posts, but in all honesty there is not a lot that makes for interesting visual progress.. As we mentioned in our previous post, Mike is spending a good amount of time trying to line up the perfectly level and plane new frames with the not-so-perfect existing structure. Without going into too much detail, a lot of it ultimately comes down to, lots of shimming, compromising, a little give and take, and that is something we expected with a house of this age, it’s “quirky” 🙂
This is cool stuff, so it deserves its own post 🙂
When we in the design phase and talked about the addition and matching the existing roof line, Mike opted for prefabricated roof trusses to keep framing labor/material and thus cost down (this was also a pre-requisite for getting a STFI permit, another cost (and time) saver!).
