This is cool stuff, so it deserves its own post 🙂
When we in the design phase and talked about the addition and matching the existing roof line, Mike opted for prefabricated roof trusses to keep framing labor/material and thus cost down (this was also a pre-requisite for getting a STFI permit, another cost (and time) saver!).
Well today, they arrived…
This morning, the framing of the addition looked like this:
By the end of the afternoon, we had a roof all framed up!
The trusses are essentially prefabricated 2×4 frames carefully measured out so they fit right onto the existing structure. They are delivered by truck and light enough for easy transport to the actual job site. Then we lifted them onto the addition and carefully lined them up and secured them in place. Obviously, with a 100+ year old house, nothing ever lines up perfectly and some compromises have to be found. Negotiating offsets is quickly becoming Mike’s favorite pass-time 🙂
